Dean Corll, known as "The Candy Man," was a man whose charm and generosity masked a terrifying darkness that would terrorize Houston in the early 1970s. His ability to blend into the community, especially with young boys, made him an unlikely predator. Corll lured his victims with promises of candy, alcohol, and parties, only to subject them to unimaginable horrors. In our latest episode, we dive deep into Corll’s life and the brutal crimes he committed, revealing how a seemingly mild-mannered man became one of America’s most notorious serial killers.

Corll’s manipulation of teenage boys, particularly David Brooks and Elmer Wayne Henley, played a key role in his reign of terror. Brooks, initially just a young acquaintance, was drawn into Corll’s web with gifts and attention, eventually helping him abduct and murder his victims. Henley, who was friends with some of the boys who went missing, was initially unaware of Corll's dark side. However, he became an active participant in the murders after Corll offered him money and the promise of friendship. Together, they were involved in the abduction and murder of at least 28 victims, though some experts believe the actual number may have been even higher.

The terror finally came to an end in 1973, when Henley shot and killed Corll in an act of self-defense. After Corll’s death, Henley’s confession led investigators to uncover the bodies of many victims, many of whom had been dismissed as runaways by local police. Despite the arrest of Henley and his accomplice Brooks, Corll’s legacy remains infamous, with a haunting reminder of how a trusted figure can conceal the darkest of secrets.

In the years since, Henley’s presence in the media and his chilling statements about Corll have only added to the outrage surrounding this case. One of Corll’s victims remains unidentified to this day, and ongoing efforts to solve that mystery serve as a reminder that the full extent of Corll’s actions may never be known. In this episode, we explore the legacy of Dean Corll—the "Candy Man"—and the lasting impact of his horrific crimes on the community and the families of his victims. Tune in as we revisit one of the most chilling and tragic chapters in serial killer history.
